MATERIAL CONSULTANCY FOR INFORMED DESIGN DECISIONS

Material selection is complex. We help architects, designers and brands research, assess and specify materials in the context of real project requirements.

From sustainability and circularity to material health, performance, durability, cost and availability, we make the relevant information and trade-offs easier to understand — so you can specify with confidence.

RESEARCHED

We look beyond headlines, product marketing and sustainability buzzwords to understand what the available information actually tells us. Depending on the project, our research can include composition, sourcing, certifications, environmental data, material-health information, technical performance, durability, maintenance and end-of-life.

ASSESSED

We assess materials in context, considering the factors that matter for the particular application rather than relying on a single label or claim. That may include circularity, recycled or renewable content, material health, durability, reparability, disassembly, reuse and end-of-life — alongside aesthetics, technical requirements, budget and availability.

PROJECT-LED

Material decisions only make sense in context. We start with the requirements of the project — where and how the material will be used, what it needs to achieve, how long it should last and which priorities matter most.

We then research and compare relevant options, making the strengths, limitations and trade-offs visible so that the final specification is appropriate to the brief.

APPLIED

Our consultancy is grounded in more than a decade of interior design experience and supported by a curated physical material library in Berlin. We handle materials, examine samples, develop combinations and apply material thinking through our own design work.
This practical perspective helps us consider not only what a datasheet says, but how a material may be detailed, maintained, experienced and used within an interior.

A CONSULTANCY ROOTED IN A PHYSICAL MATERIAL LIBRARY

Our Berlin material library is a working research resource supporting the consultancy. It allows us and our clients to explore materials physically, compare finishes and applications, and bring technical research into direct conversation with colour, texture and design intent.

The collection is curated for research and comparison rather than presented as a catalogue of universally “good” materials. Different materials offer different strengths, limitations and opportunities depending on how and where they are used.

Our assessments are based on information available from manufacturers, certification schemes, technical documentation and other relevant sources at the time of review. Criteria and evidence vary by material and project, and recommendations are made in the context of the stated project requirements.
